Everything You Missed in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

Ch-ch-ch-Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers are back! However, the chipmunks weren’t the only characters to return to the big screen. The movie was filled with nutty Easter eggs, references, and hidden secrets. Did you take the clues and find the where’s and why’s and who’s? Here’s Everything You Missed in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

The Disney Castle Mash-Up

The movie showcased some nutty mash-ups of classic Disney movies and the very first one can be seen during the iconic Disney opening credit scene. The castle gets hit by what seems like the bootlegger ray and combines The Sultan’s Palace from Aladdin, Elsa’s ice castle from Frozen, Prince Eric’s castle from The Little Mermaid, and the castle from the opening credits scene of Incredibles 2.

Chip’s Knight Rider Lunchbox

We’re taken back to 1982 to relive Chip and Dale’s childhood and the start of their friendship. During the two’s meet cute scene, Chip is carrying a Knight Rider lunchbox, foreshadowing the duo’s crimefighting life.

Mickey Mouse Phone

In the 1989, an AT&T Mickey Mouse phone was all the rage. You can see spot one in the background while Chip and Dale eat pizza on the couch.

Shoutout to the Creator of Rescue Rangers

Tad Stones was one of the creators of the original Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers TV show. Therefore, the film pays homage to him by adding his voice into a scene. Director Akiva Schaffer told Polygon:

“In the movie, there’s a moment when [Chip and Dale] are in [their] young Hollywood times and they’re trying to get their career started, and they get the phone call,” Schaffer tells Polygon. “And there’s a voice on the other end that’s like a Disney executive saying Chip, Dale, how would you like your own show? And that’s Tad [Stones]’s voice.”

Characters at the Rescue Ranger Party

Fans will recognize some familiar faces at the Rescue Rangers party. Paula Abdul is DJing with MC Skat Kat and the Three Little Pigs and Roger Rabbit are tearing up the dance floor.

The Crowd at Fan Con

The first Fan Con scene is full of Easter eggs and references, so let’s break down the scenes one by one. As the convention is starting, eagle-eyed fans can spot the monkey from Emperor’s New Groove dressed up as Ash Ketchum from Pokémon and overlooking a crowd that includes someone cosplaying as Mario from Super Mario, Louise from Bob’s Burgers, and Charlie Brown from Peanuts. The camera then zooms across the cheering fans and shows someone dressed up as Moana and someone else dressed up as Fat Thor from Endgame, right before we see two mice dressed like Princess Leia and Kylo Ren from Star Wars. When Baloo from Jungle Book takes the stage, there’s a lot of cheering fans at the base of the stage, including a fan dressed up as Goku from Dragon Ball Z, Princess Peach from Super Mario, and Sailor Moon. You can also spot someone in the corner sporting a Hello Kitty backpack.

Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast

Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast makes his appearance at Fan Con and fans realize his burning hands are unable to make any money.

The One and Only, Ugly Sonic

Ugly Sonic was the biggest and most unexpected cameo of the entire movie. Since fans demanded a redo of the blue hedgehog for the 2020 Sonic film, Ugly Sonic never made his way into a movie…until now. The character is voiced by Tim Robinson and fans just can’t get enough of those human teeth.

Tigra from Marvel

Tigra from Marvel Comics also has a booth by Dale and Ugly Sonic. Take a look at the bottom of the booth and you’ll find it’s decorated with the iconic “Avengers Assemble” line.

Chip’s Fridge

Chip’s fridge is stocked with frozen treats that serve as yummy shoutouts to some iconic characters. He has Ice Age ice cream that features Scrat the prehistoric rat, Frozone’s veggie medley from The Incredibles, and a Tyson’s frozen Looney Tunes meal sponsored by Foghorn Leghorn.

Monterey Jack’s Fridge Reveal His Australian Roots

Chip finds a stink gorgonzola in Monterey Jack’s fridge, but if you take a look to the left you’ll also find a jar of vegemite. This is a nice callback to Monterey’s Australian roots.

Hollywood’s Walk of Fame Has Some New Stars

As Chip walks out of Monterey Jack’s apartment, he strolls along the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, in this universe, Hollywood has installed some new stars. You can find stars with the names of Samurai Jack from Samurai Jack, Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants, Yogi Bear from The Yogi Bear Show, and Chun Li from the Street Fighter video games.

Dobby from Harry Potter is in a Gucci Ad

Along Chip’s stroll on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, ads line the streets. The camera zooms in on an ad for Fast and Furious Babies, Mr. Doubtfire starring Meryl Streep, and Batman v. ET. However, one of the ads that might be a little harder to spot is a Gucci poster featuring Dobby from Harry Potter. Not only did Dobby get a sock from his master, but he also got a nice jean jacket.

Is Dale a Chippendales Dancer?

No doubt there’s been jokes between Chip ‘n Dale and Chippendales over the years, but Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers might have just memorialized the connection. After Chip and Dale visit Monterey Jack, Chip goes to work at a “show.” If you take a look behind his coworkers, there’s a poster that says “Temperature Rising” and Dale’s name and face is listed on the middle star.

Police Car from Cars Arrives on Scene

The cops arrive to Monterey Jack’s house to investigate his disappearance and one of the characters outside his building is a cop car from the Cars universe. Also, Monterey lives at International Tower which is a play off the luxury condos in Long Beach, California.

Wynnchel and Duncan from Wreck-It-Ralph Joined the LAPD

Chip and Dale are not the only investigators in town. Two of the LAPD investigators at Monterey’s apartment are  Wynnchel and Duncan, the doughnut security duo from Wreck-It-Ralph. They served as King Candy’s henchmen when he ruled Candy Rush.

Johnny Bravo and Doug have Ads in Town

As Chip and Dale are on their way to find Bjornson, fans get a glimpse of the world they live in. The cars on the road are designed to look like characters from Cars and the ads that litter the skyline all point to pop culture references. There’s an ad for Waze the Movie, a red and yellow billboard for “Johnny Bravo Fitness,” and an injury law ad for Funnie & Porkchop from Doug.

Dale’s Shoutout to Brooklyn 99

Chip tells Dale not to wear a top hat and cane, but Dale insists the disguise and backstory is necessary. This is a subtle shoutout to Jake Peralta from Brooklyn 99. Peralta is always coming up with backstories for himself as he hilariously investigates the crimes of New York. The addition of the Brooklyn 99 reference in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers is very fitting since Andy Samberg voices both Dale and Jake Peralta.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Mural Outside of Main Street

When Chip and Dale walk to Main Street, there’s a graffiti wall behind them. This wall looks a lot like the graffiti Miles Morales painted in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Spider-Man producer Phil Lord has even commented on the easter egg saying, “Chip and Dale are canon.”

Mom from Phineas and Ferb is Selling “Cupcakes” on Main Street

Dale tells Chip that Main Street is full of criminals and black market sellers. Therefore, you might be surprised to find Linda Flynn-Fletcher from Phineas and Ferb selling cupcakes on the street. She was never able to spot Phineas and Ferb’s crazy schemes, and maybe it’s because she was too busy running her criminal side business.

The Dog Blowing Bubbles

The dog blowing bubbles on Main Street looks like a couple of Disney pups. Some people think he could be a reference to Max, Prince Eric’s dog from The Little Mermaid or Mooch from Lady and the Tramp. However, the dog that he looks the most like is Colonel from 101 Dalmatians.

Rats from Ratatouille Run Around Bjornson’s Cellar

Bjornson takes Chip and Dale in his cellar and they come across many different rats. One of the rats eating cheese on a barrel resembles Disney’s Ratatouille. If you look behind this rat, there’s also a brown rat that looks like Emile from Ratatouille.

Cats from the 2019 Film, Cats

Chip and Dale are taken to the Uncanny Valley, where they come across individuals that Chip describes as early 2000s animation-styled characters who look real, but don’t look right. Well some of the characters that inhabit Uncanny Valley include two cats from the 2019 film, Cats.

Chip and Dale as Simpsons Characters, Rick and Morty, Ren and Stimpy, and Deadpool and Batman

As Chip and Dale go through the bootlegging CG machine, the computer shows different animated versions of the chipmunks.
