The Bat Signal Dims as Ben Affleck Steps Down as Batman

Well, it looks like it’s time for Ben Affleck to take off the cowl and stash away the cape as he will not be portraying the Dark Knight in Batman’s upcoming solo movie, The Batman.

Affleck played the dark crusader in Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Justice League and fans were excited to see more of Batman in his new solo film. However, it seems as though fans wanted the film without the actor.

In general, DC fans were not impressed by Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight and with his struggle to stay on as the director of the Batman solo film, it was only a matter of time before he stepped down.

Affleck took to Twitter to confirm his departure from the film by tweeting the Deadline Hollywood article entitled “’The Batman’ to Fly in Summer 2021; Ben Affleck Passes the Torch to Next Generation of Bruce Wayne”. Along with the article, he also wrote: “Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life.”

This marks the end of an era, and Affleck will go down in history with some of the other great actors that have brought Batman to the big screen.

The Search for a New Dark Knight

Underneath the darkness, the search is on for the DC’s new knight in shining armor. According to Deadline Hollywood, the next Bruce Wayne is expected to be much younger than Affleck, sparking many rumors and suggestions.

Kit Harington from Game of Thrones is one of the fan favorites to bring the Dark Knight back to the darkness. Reports in 2017 suggested that he was a major contender to take on the role and with GOT coming to an end, the timing would work out perfectly. However, at the age of 32, could Harrington be too old to play a younger Bruce Wayne?

Other rumors point to Jon Hamm, Armie Hammer, Noah Centineo, Jack O’Connell, and of course, Michael B. Jordan as frontrunners for the new Dark Knight.

Although we have no idea who will be playing Batman in his solo film, we do know that Warner Bros. expects to release The Batman in June 2021.
