Captain Marvel: What Toys Have Already Revealed About the Movie

Marvel Studios is the ultimate master of secrets. Nothing passes through their iron gates and therefore, fans are constantly left in the dark. However, Marvel Studios isn’t the only one with secrets about Captain Marvel.

Marketing is important to any movie’s success and therefore Disney and Marvel Studios have trusted some big-shot companies to design, develop, and sell toys related to their films. Lucky for us, these toys come with secrets of their own and they aren’t as tight-lipped as the actors, producers, and directors.

So, let’s become a child again and give life to the toys as we explore the secrets they’ve revealed about Captain Marvel.

Goose, the Cat is an Alien

During the trailers, we see Nick Fury cuddling up with a cute kitty cat. However, if you’re a true fan, you already know that this cat isn’t all that it seems. In the comics, Captain Marvel’s cat is actually named Chewie and is a Flerken, a dangerous alien species with pocket dimensions hidden inside their bodies. These pockets can store just about anything, including fangs and tentacles to strike at their enemies.

Although the film changed the cat’s name to Goose (apparently preferring a Top Gun reference over a Star Wars shout out), some toys have revealed that Goose will still have his alien characteristics in Captain Marvel.

If you look at the toy pictured on the left, Goose has blue tentacles coming out of his cute little mouth, which most likely represents the tentacles of a Flerken. Then if you look at the toy on the right, you’ll find Goose in shackles and a muzzle. This suggests that Goose’s alien ways will come out in the film and that Nick Fury and/or S.H.I.E.L.D. will detain him.

Interestingly, there is a theory floating out there that suggests Goose will take out Nick Fury’s eye. During Winter Soldier, Fury told Cap “the last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye”. In the Captain Marvel trailer, we see Fury cozying up to the cat and we’ve never seen him take so much liking to anything else in the MCU. Therefore, with his deadly tentacles and a window of opportunity, maybe Goose will become Fury’s eye snatcher.

Jude Law is Playing Yon-Rogg

There was a lot of confusion surrounding Jude Law’s role in Captain Marvel. While some people thought he would be playing Mar-Vell, a Funko pop has revealed that he will actually play Yon-Rogg.

Yon-Rogg is a Kree from the planet Hala and serves as a Colonel in the Imperial Kree Army. He teams up with Mar-Vell during many missions but ultimately becomes intensely jealous of him. This jealousy turns to hate and Yon-Rogg attempts to assassinate the hero.

This plot seems to fit the Captain Marvel trailers as Jude Law’s character seems to have very ominous and dark intentions. The trailers also seem to hint that Law’s character will ultimately betray Captain Marvel and become a villain himself.

Genis-Vell May Appear in the Film

The Marvel Legends line of toys is selling an action figure on the Shop Disney website that hasn’t been introduced in the Captain Marvel trailers. This character is named  “Genis-Vell” and is described on the site as “Born of Titanian Eternal, Genis-Vell possesses indomitable strength and uses powerful Nega-Bands to channel incredible energy blasts!” The toy’s written description then goes on to say, “Recreate Genis-Vell’s Captain Marvel scenes with this 6” action figure from the Marvel Legends series”.

So, based on this description, we can expect to see Genis-Vell appear in Captain Marvel.

In the comics, Genis-Vell is the son of the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell. He is an Eternal from Titan that was artificially aged into adulthood. As half-Kree and half-Eternal, Genis-Vell is extremely strong and even became the third Captain Marvel in the early 1990s. Therefore, we could potentially see him take on the title again in Captain Marvel or see him take on an entirely different role.

Nick Fury is a Skrull?!

The Skrulls have invaded Earth and that’s got all of us fans scrambling to point fingers at our beloved Avengers. According to one toy, the Skrull could’ve been under our nose the entire time.

Reddit user qyurryusoblivius posted a photo of a Nick Fury Marvel Legends figure and noticed that his eyes have a green tint. Now, this coloring could be the way the plastic was manufactured or a simple production flaw, but every other character’s action figure seems to have normal colored eyes. This has started an avalanche of fan theories that accuse Nick Fury of being a Skrull.

Taking out the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. would be the ultimate Skrull goal and therefore makes Fury a huge target for impersonation. It would also explain his missing eye and how he survived in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. What if the missing eye was a gimmick to throw people off the Skrull’s scent, or maybe the Skrull simply couldn’t replicate one of Fury’s eyes? Then, the Skrull impersonating Fury actually died in The Winter Soldier, but since the position was too promising to give up, the Skrull army put in another Skrull to take his place and bring Nick Fury back to life.

…………….
