Uh oh! It looks like Samuel L. Jackson let another Marvel secret slip – and this time it’s a major one.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jackson said:
“She’s pretty much the strongest character — in terms of someone with powers are able to do things — in the Marvel universe. So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it’s gonna be a dynamite thing. I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now — we saw throughout Infinity War — so now we know that we need something that’s as powerful as Thanos. And at some point, we’ll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she’s capable of. She’s one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel, so…”
And there we have it. Jackson just spilled one of the biggest secrets of the film and helped fans reveal what they’ve been searching for all along.
Leaked set photos of Avengers: Endgame have been circling around the internet for the past couple of months and these images suggest that time travel will be a major component of the film. We’ve seen shots of a young Captain America and pre-snap Iron Man that lead us all to believe the heroes will have to go back in time to save the present.
Most fans already knew that the Avengers were going to use time travel to take down Thanos, but they didn’t know how – until now.
Jackson’s confirmation that Captain Marvel can indeed travel through time shows that she may be the one the Avengers are waiting for. Will she be the one to save the day like Nick Fury hoped in Infinity War? Will she help the Avengers travel through time to stop the decimation? Time (and apparently Jackson) will only tell.
Jackson also confirmed during the interview that we will see the Tesseract in the film. After the release of the second Captain Marvel trailer, many fans have been quick to point out the P.E.G.A.S.U.S. logo hidden in the clip. P.E.G.A.S.U.S. was the program in The Avengers (2012) that was studying the Tesseract and ultimately the Space Stone. Now, it looks like this wasn’t just a cheeky Marvel Easter Egg and is actually a plot point in the film.
Jackson told Entertainment Tonight, “We’re actually entering a ship that belonged to a doctor from Carol Danvers’ past. She’s trying to find some answers to what happened, why he was on Earth and what that whole power core thing – seems like the Tesseract has been the constant in all these movies”.
Captain Marvel will blast into theaters on March 8th and Avengers: Endgame will snap into the movies on April 26th.
